I am Dr. N. Junior Sundresh, Professor of Surgery and Medical Superintendent at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Cuddalore District. With more than two decades of academic, clinical, and administrative experience, my journey in medicine has been shaped by a passion for patient care, surgical excellence, medical education, and healthcare leadership.
I earned my MBBS (2000) and M.S. in General Surgery (2005) from Rajah Muthiah Medical College, Annamalai University, followed by advanced training in Minimal Access Surgery, Robotic Surgery, and Laparoscopy. Over the years, I have pursued diverse academic milestones including multiple postgraduate diplomas, fellowships (F.A.C.S., F.R.C.S., F.I.C.S., F.I.A.G.E.S., F.A.L.S.), and interdisciplinary degrees such as MBA in Hospital Management, MA in Political Science, and MA in Disaster Management. This breadth of training reflects my commitment to a holistic approach to healthcare and leadership.
I have served as a faculty member since 2002, rising from Junior Resident to Professor. My teaching spans MBBS, BDS, postgraduate students, and allied health sciences, guiding them not only in surgical skills but also in research and professional ethics. Over the years, I have been entrusted with significant academic responsibilities as an Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and PhD examiner across India, shaping the next generation of surgeons.
As Medical Superintendent, I oversee hospital operations with a focus on quality care, patient safety, and institutional growth. My prior roles as Assistant and Deputy Medical Superintendent at RMMCH equipped me with experience in policy-making, resource management, and public health administration. I have also contributed as a Course Coordinator for MBA Hospital Management, bridging clinical practice with healthcare leadership.
Research has been an integral part of my career. I have guided numerous research projects on surgical practice, hospital management, and patient care. My contributions include over 150 publications in national and international journals, covering topics from acute appendicitis, hernia repair, laparoscopic innovations, surgical infections, diabetic wound management, and cancer studies. These works aim to blend clinical evidence with practical applicability for better outcomes in surgery.
I have actively participated in and contributed to national and international conferences, CME programs, and workshops on general surgery, minimal access surgery, gastroenterology, and hospital management. As both a participant and invited speaker, I value academic exchange as a vital driver of medical progress.
My professional philosophy rests on three pillars:
Through my work, I aim to bridge clinical expertise with academic scholarship and healthcare administration, contributing to the holistic improvement of medical education and public health services in India.
